If your clients are contemplating expanding their charitable giving activities, they generally have three options:

• Direct giving: Donor makes gifts directly to each charity, receiving individual receipts for each donation made;
  Or
• Open an advised fund at a public foundation: Donor opens a fund at a public foundation and makes donations and recommends grants through the fund.
• Establish a private foundation: Donor incorporates a private foundation and make donations and grants through it;
  These options have different unique advantages that should be considered when making decisions about how to best meet charitable and financial goals.
