Extend your ability to solve complex gifting issues
Do you have complicated non-cash donations to process, or complex tax issues to solve?
If your organization does not have the ability to easily receive and receipt donations of shares, your donors could make use of Tides Canada for that purpose. It is much more tax efficient for many donors to make contributions in the form of appreciated publicly-traded securities than in cash.
We can also help you facilitate solutions for your donors for other types of planned gifts such as donations of insurance policies, real estate, retirement plans, and more.
Facilitate International Giving for your donors
Very few social or environmental problems confine themselves to regional or even national boundaries.
Nor do the concerns and commitments of many donors.
In partnership with our sister organization Tides Foundation, Tides Canada can ensure that US donations to Canadian charities generate a US charitable receipt, which in turn could help those donors consider higher levels of support. US institutional support (foundations, etc.) can also be handled in this manner.
US charities can also extend tax benefits to their Canadian donors by establishing a Charitable Giving Fund at Tides Canada.
Establish a Charitable Giving Fund
If you prefer to outsource the acceptance of donations, you can start a Charitable Giving Fund at Tides Canada.
With a fund, you can choose a wide variety of service options. We can help with:
- A range of donation methods including, cheques by mail, web-based giving, credit card and more complex gifts of publicly traded securities and bequests;
- Donation spreadsheets;
- Quarterly fund statement;
- Tax receipting and donor stewardship;
- Grant making planning, recommendations, review & disbursements.
An allocation on revenue contributed to your fund is retained by Tides Canada, dependent on the particular support services you choose.
Is a Tides Canada Fund right for your organization?
Please keep in mind the following criteria for any organization that seeks fundraising partnership with Tides Canada:
- Activities must be charitable in purpose according to Canada Revenue Agency guidelines http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/charities/policy/csp/csp-c09-e.html
- Activities must be consistent with the mission and mandate of Tides Canada Foundation http://www.tidescanada.org/cms/page1116.cfm
- Your organization must have a need for, and the potential to benefit from the services provided by Tides Canada Foundation.
- Your organization must be willing to work in collaboration with Tides Canada Foundation, specifically in the areas of annual fundraising plans, public communications, donor stewardship and charitable regulatory policy.
- Fundraising revenues of $25,000 annually.

Please be aware that a one-time donation of $1,000 is required upon commitment to Tides Canada to cover administrative costs associated with the opening of your fundraising fund.
